As the road to transport, trade, and cultural exchange seems to be blurring and fading for the nations surrounding the Mediterranean region, the region that once had so completely represented the interaction and integration of diverse cultures, communities, citizens, and collaboration, seems to be now at crossroads today.

This decline in interaction and integration has pushed the Mediterranean region towards a number of complex challenges and critical security risks.

These complex challenges, risks, and issues that range from the escalation of extremism to nationalism to the arms trade, socio-economic constraints, cyber warfare, and the on-going cyber breaches, the stability, and security of Mediterranean nations: its government, industries, organizations, and academia (NGIOA) is failing right in front of our eyes.

There is a growing concern that the Mediterranean region’s security has become a complex challenge that would impact not only those nations in the region but all nations globally. There are many who feel that framing effective security solutions for the region seems impossible. So the question is how to bring safety, security, and stability to the region when the complex risks and issues are moving towards a crisis that will put entire humanity at risk. Time is now to talk about the complex security risks of the Mediterranean region.
