Mapping Human Consciousness to Simulate Artificial Consciousness

Even though neuroscience has made amazing advances, the origin of consciousness, its nature, and processes still remain largely unknown. This is mainly because the underlying physiological mechanisms of generating conscious states are still not clearly understood.

While brain simulation still isn’t an exact science, efforts are already underway to map all the connections in the human brain to simulate the brain. It seems like scientists were able to successfully put a worm brain (Caenorhabditis elegans) in a Lego robot body, and it really worked. Now, even if we’re not uploading our brains into computers or robots, just being able to simulate a brain would help to revolutionize artificial intelligence and consciousness.

With all these advances, there is also a hope that, if we could one day get to the point where we can somehow get our minds to escape the human brain, it will allow us to live forever in a digital form of consciousness.

Understandably, any such scenario of the digitization of the human brain would bring great promise and perils. The time is now to focus on understanding and evaluating human mapping initiatives that would take us a step closer to understanding intelligence, consciousness, awareness, creativity, and mindfulness.
