Human Consciousness to Machine Consciousness

Over the years, many have wondered about the metaphysics, mechanisms, methods, mode, and the science of consciousness to understand consciousness in man and machines. There are many researchers who are trying to understand and evaluate:

  • Why does consciousness exist?
  • How does consciousness exist?
  • How to measure consciousness?
  • How to identify neural correlates of consciousness?
  • What are the different states of consciousness?

The answers to these questions depend on our understanding of the philosophy and the science of consciousness in both man and machines, and also in how we understand its relationships. But as we see even the term consciousness is itself caught in this endless explosion of meaning and there is no agreed central definition of consciousness or tools to measure consciousness.

Irrespective of man or machines, knowing what determines consciousness is perhaps the biggest question we face today. While there are many theories of consciousness; it is important to understand the leading theories of consciousness to know where consciousness research is going.

  • How should we understand and explain consciousness?
  • How can we develop mathematical theories that can make believable predictions about consciousness?

The time is now to understand man and machine consciousness.
